Rotary House

Shelter for homeless people "Rotary House" is a unique hostel for young homeless men. Annually the number of homeless participants is 40-100 at the age to 35 years, of which 20 reside at the place of temporary residence. All actions taken under the program "Return of the homeless community" are intended to equip the people of the means to function independently in society.

The program provides a comprehensive and integrated system, creating conditions for overcoming the problems of life of persons covered by it. Thanks to several wards of the Association "Open Door" took the job, gained a new professional qualification, have returned to continue their education and lived at the social and personal premises.

Residents of the "Rotary House" take a number of activities, leading to the achievement of their complete independence. They provide social reintegration plan and contain many components, of which the person subject to use depending on their aptitudes and aspirations. Working with people affected by the program has a preventive, reclamation and reeducational character.

Persons living in the "Rotary House" acquire proffesional useful knowledge during a series of workshops, courses and training, providing essential skills needed in the labour market. Professional preparation they gain from internships and practice. They also have the possibility of contact with the culture while going to the cinema and theater, and participation in cultural events. Also undertake voluntary activities (eg. care for people with disabilities, the sick), participate in various ways in other business associations, such as self-help groups and regular events organized by the Association. These classes are the tasks of social mobilization.

Staying in the "Rotary House" is associated with check-in and registration at the Labour Office. The participant sign a social contract, his overall condition of life is diagnosed. Undergo a medical examination, and if necessary will be provided with medication. Material assistance is also offered in the field of shoes, clothes and hygiene products. All these activities make up the basic social assistance. The stay does not normally exceed in length from 3 months to a year, though in justified cases it may be extended. Maintenance, duty held in the canteen and minor rehabilitation-renovation works in the House 'R' belong to its inhabitants.

People which "Rotary House" is especially dedicated are the child house wards, leaving the prison and correctional facilities, and those who decided to break away from addictions.

The project is implemented at the Center for Mutual Aid "House behind the Gate" at the Targowa 82 street. So far the results have shown to be significant. Has the ambition to create a flagship institution directing its offer to young people at risk of social exclusion.
